Texas Longhorns release initial injury report against Georgia Bulldogs

AUSTIN – The Texas Longhorns released their first student-athlete availability report ahead of Saturday’s game against the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs.

The biggest injury question for Texas entering the week was the status of receiver Isaiah Bond, who suffered an ankle injury in the first half of the 34-3 win over the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian told the media during the SEC’s weekly conference call on Wednesday that Bond “had a pretty good practice today,” and the availability report certainly reflects that. He is currently listed as questionable.

Georgia has its own injury problems. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported Tuesday that Bulldogs linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. is not expected to play against Texas after missing the last two games with a foot injury.

He was officially declared out on Wednesday.

The Longhorns already knew they would be without safety Derek Williams Jr., who suffered a season-ending injury against Oklahoma that required surgery.

Texas defensive lineman Michael Taaffe admitted it hurt to hear the news but said Williams Jr. will continue to play a key role on the sideline.

“Prayers for D-Will. What a great guy,” Taaffe said. “He will have a great career. His job is not done this year. He was one of the first in the building this morning. And man, how great is that. That shows his character right there. And so he still is. “He’ll be there, he’ll play an important role on this team, but I’m so sad to hear this news. He’s really my brother and I’m definitely playing for him.

No. 1 Texas and No. 5 Georgia kick off in Austin on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
