Duke Women’s Basketball Preview: Emma Koabel

With the college basketball season just around the corner, it’s time for the Blue Zone to break down the 2024-25 Duke women’s basketball roster. We looked at it before Jenessa Cotton, Jordan Wood, Louann Battiston, Riley Nelson, Arianna Roberson And Delaney Thomas. Next up is sniper Emma Koabel:

Emma Koabel

Year: Junior

Height: 5ft 11

Position: Guard

Last year’s stat line: 12.1 MPG, 3.0 PPG, 0.7 APG

Game Breakdown: Koabel, the 5-foot-11 Canadian guard, is entering her third season with the Blue Devils and is proving to be a key player for Duke this season after playing in all 34 games the previous season. Although Koabel didn’t see much in her first season with the Blue Devils, she scored a career-high 14 points last year against North Carolina Central. Koabel also set personal bests in minutes, blocks and steals against the Eagles. The Ontario native also helped set a program record for most 3-pointers made in a game by hitting four of her own against Coastal Carolina.

Koabel’s exponential development from her freshman season to her final season and her contribution to the Blue Devils’ performance shows that she plays an integral role on the team, both offensively and defensively, and that she promises to continue to deliver for Duke.

Role in the team: Overall, as a veteran player for the Blue Devils and fourth on the team in shooting percentage from behind the arc, Koabel could see more playing time next season. She will likely continue to provide efficient scoring alongside top guards Reigan Richardson, Oluchi Okananwa and Taina Mair. But with Vanessa de Jesus returning from injury and strength at the guard position, Koabel must continue to earn her place as a key player in the team.
