FULL INTERVIEW: Interim Superintendent Caleb Fine

On KPCW’s “Local News Hour” Wednesday, Interim Superintendent Caleb Fine said the platform is another way the district can give students the support they need.

“We as schools are a big part of that support, we have as much influence as anyone else, but the most important influence is the home, and then we also have the community,” he said.

According to the website Parent Guidance, 50% of parents worry that their child is having difficulties but don’t know what to do, and 10 to 20% of adolescents worldwide suffer from mental health problems.

The digital platform features a library of mental health courses, one-on-one coaching for parents, and a question-and-answer forum.

“It’s an area where parents can get a little more information and try out different tools to best support their child and their development, because it’s complex,” Fine said. “Raising children is complex, it is the greatest gift, the greatest privilege of most parents’ lives, but it is also one of the most difficult things they do.”

The district is one of 360 school districts Partnering with Cook Center to provide access to mental health services. More than 3 million families in 46 states use it.

The district previously initiated this “We All Belong” campaign to promote stronger bonds between students and the community.

This year, local administrators also implemented one standardized harassment reporting systemadopted policy changes to establish acceptable school behavior and trained staff in incident investigation and resolution.
