City leader reacts to MPS football misstep

MILWAUKEE – There is a lot of talk among Milwaukee city leaders and Milwaukee Public School (MPS) parents about another district issue.

Bay View and Pulaski high schools must forfeit all of their football games in 2024. The two teams will also be banned from the playoffs for two years.

MPS said this issue was due to the paperwork not being submitted to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA).

“We continue to disappoint our children by dropping the ball on different things,” said an MPS mother and district employee.

Because of her job at MPS, she wanted to remain anonymous. However, she wanted her voice to be heard.

“This has something to do with an adult being paid to provide proper documentation to the WIAA, and so they dropped the ball on the kids,” she explained.

In the missing document, some members of the Milwaukee Common Council even throw a flag at the piece. Many of them raise more concerns for the district.

“It’s story after story of MPS dropping balls right and left involving basic paperwork,” 4Th District Councilman, said Robert Bauman.

Alderman Bauman is one of many Common Council members concerned about the recent MPS issue.

Bauman said this mistake only hurts the community.

“I mean, who would want to move to Milwaukee and put their kids in the Milwaukee public school system based on all of these stories that come in month after month after month,” Bauman said.
