The murderer Donald Musselman dies in custody

Donald Musselman, who was convicted of murdering an Ottawa musician and pleaded guilty to killing another inmate while in prison, has died.

Correctional Services Canada (CSC) confirmed Musselman’s death in a news release Wednesday while in custody at Joyceville Institution near Kingston, Ont. CSC did not provide a cause of death or further information.

Musselman’s next of kin have been informed of his death, CSC said. Spokesman Mike Shrider said both the department and the coroner’s office were reviewing the circumstances surrounding his death.

At the time of his death, Musselman was 24 years old and had been serving a life sentence for second-degree murder since May.

He was found guilty in December 2023 of shooting Ottawa musician Markland Campbell, 42, at the ByWard Market in 2019. Musselman was sentenced to life in prison for this crime.

In September, he pleaded guilty to killing Zakaria Sheek-Hussein at the Ottawa-Carleton detention center. This conviction added eight years to his sentence.
