Syracuse suspends fraternity after video shows students violently vomiting and being stuck to cross

Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud on Wednesday condemned a disgusting video of an alleged hazing incident at a campus fraternity.

The video, apparently taken via Snapchat, shows two people violently vomiting on two other people lying on the ground. The camera then pans to show another person tied to a cross with duct tape and their mouth taped shut while rock music plays in the background.

“Go crazy,” reads the video’s caption.

Syverud condemned the vile clip in an email to students.

“The university was recently made aware of videos depicting abhorrent behavior that endangers the well-being of some of our students,” the chancellor said. “I am outraged by the actions shown in these videos and condemn this behavior.”

He added that the university has suspended all activities of its Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. This fraternity had previously been placed on probation until May of this year for violations of the Student Code of Conduct.

The university’s public safety department is also investigating the circumstances surrounding the video and will conduct interviews with students, the chancellor wrote.

“Any person who chooses to participate will face appropriate disciplinary action,” he added.

Phi Kappa Psi’s national office did not respond to a request for comment from the National News Desk on Wednesday.
