If you're a fan of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, you won't want to lose sleep over this 2024 Netflix movie

It’s been a great year for movies on streaming services, especially if you have a Netflix subscription. The service has delivered some quality films over the past year, including one that may be the best animated action film I’ve seen since then Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. If you haven’t seen it yet, you shouldn’t lose sleep over the 2024 film Ultraman: Rise.

Regardless of whether readers are familiar with the Japanese hero Ultraman or this is their first appearance, this film is a must-see for Netflix subscribers. I know I’m setting the bar high and comparing it to one of the most popular Marvel films of the last five years, but I promise it won me over in every way, and I believe it will do the same for others .

Ultraman: Rising matches the action and animation of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse

I think almost immediately when readers boot up Ultraman: Risethey will see the inspiration Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. The film is rich with colorful scenes, over-the-top fights, and some of the smoothest animation you’ll see in a CGI film. A cynic might say it’s a “rip-off,” but shouldn’t all animation strive to replicate the success of one of the best offerings on the market?

I would also oppose the idea Ultraman: Rise rips everything off because the character Ultraman is about the same age as the web-slinger. There’s a lot in this film that draws on the character’s history, and that alone sets it apart from any comparisons to Spider-Man.

The true appeal of Ultraman is his ability to challenge and take on Kaiju. If you are a Godzilla Fans like CinemaBlend’s Rich Knight will love seeing a giant human take on giant monsters. It’s a concept that I admittedly found very cheesy until I saw this film, and now I’m begging to see more installments in this series.

The film serves as an introduction to an exciting franchise for children

Being a mom and a geek, I immediately start looking for franchises for my 6 year old to get involved in and honestly, that’s not so easy these days. When I was a kid, the vast majority of anime, superheroes, monsters, and star Wars Things were aimed at children and that is no longer the case today. Franchises have started offering a lot more for adults than kids, and while there are things kids can watch too, they’re few and far between.

Fortunately, we live in a time of wide variety of streaming services, and the average person has an account on many of them. If you have a child who likes UltramanThere is an entire series that you can enjoy on Netflix, and you can also watch the classic series on Pluto TV and other free-to-stream platforms. It depends on the child whether they appreciate the film as much as the Netflix film, but children are generally more forgiving of critics than adults.

Overall, though, I’d give it the green light and say that the Ultraman offerings I’ve seen on streaming are generally no more intense than Power Rangers for the average kid. Like I said, when it comes to new geeky stuff for kids, the selection isn’t what it used to be, so those looking to get their kids involved in a cool franchise with a solid library of content should give this one a try.

There’s enough in Ultraman: Rising for adults to enjoy

That has to be said Ultraman: Rise also has a lot to offer for adult fans. When this film came out it had a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and that was completely justified. Sure, the score dropped to 83%, but the 92% viewership speaks volumes about this project months after it was released on the platform. This type of film music is rare, although hopefully this is a positive trend that will continue in upcoming Netflix films and shows.

I guess most people are interested Ultraman: Rise are so familiar with the character that they know the gist of what they’re getting into. So what makes this series different? Well, it shows the very real story of adults having drama with their parents in adulthood and the rifts that can sometimes arise from disagreements between families.

Ultraman: Rise is also working hard to bring the character into the modern day with a new audience, with Ken Sato taking center stage. Telling the story from the perspective of an overly confident young man who believes he can juggle both the role of protector of Japan and the role of a superstar professional baseball player competing with Shohei Ohtani is so much fun , but it is also quite a challenge.

Without delving too deeply into the story and destroying the reason why people should tune in, this is a film about commitment, family and sacrifice, just like the standard superhero film is. There’s a story that goes beyond “defeating the bad guy” and a lot of nuance that sets the stage for future adventures for Ken. At the end of the film, all I can complain about is that I didn’t get to see anything straight after. Considering how hectic the TV schedule can be in 2024, I’m not the type to dwell on franchises for too long when there are other shows to watch.

Is Ultraman: Rise just like Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse? I think I’ve made it clear by now that that’s not the case, but I wouldn’t for a second say that it’s an inferior project or a copycat trying to put itself at the forefront of a film that the world excited and wants to renew her interest in superhero animation. What I want to say is that I hope everyone in Hollywood looks at both and decides that it’s a good idea to tell more similar stories, be it for children, adults, or all of the above.
