Crime Stoppers tip leads to the arrest of Texas’ 10th most wanted fugitive in Jim Wells County

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announces that a Texas 10 Most Wanted fugitive is back in custody following his recent arrest. Authorities arrested most wanted fugitive Luis Becerra of Texas on October 5. A A reward will be paid for the crime fighters.

Luis Alberto Becerra, 38, was arrested in Jim Wells Co. following a traffic stop near Alice, Texas. DPS Criminal Investigations Division (CID) special agents from McAllen coordinated with officers from the Jim Wells Co. Sheriff’s Office to follow up on tip information and locate a suspected vehicle Becerra was riding in.

In 2014, Becerra was convicted of assault on a family/household member by obstructing breathing/circulatory system and was subsequently sentenced to 10 years probation. In 2020, his probation was revoked and he was subsequently sentenced to two years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) prison. Becerra had been wanted since January 2024 for aggravated robbery out of Hidalgo Co. More information about Becerra’s capture can be found here.

Funded by the Governor’s Office of Public Safety, Texas Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards to any person who provides information leading to the arrest of one of Texas’ 10 most wanted fugitives, sex offenders or criminal illegal aliens. So far in 2024, DPS and other agencies have arrested 37 Texas 10 Most Wanted fugitives, sex offenders and criminal illegal aliens, including 14 sex offenders, 10 gang members and four criminal illegal aliens – paying $19,000 in rewards for information leading to arrests .

  • Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
  • Submit a web tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about and then clicking the link under their picture.
  • Submit a Facebook tip by clicking the “SUBMIT TIP” link (found in the “About” section).

All tips are anonymous – regardless of how they are submitted – and tipsters receive a tip number instead of using a name.

DPS investigators work with local law enforcement agencies to select fugitives for the Texas Top 10 Most Wanted fugitives, sex offenders and criminal illegal aliens list. The current lists – with photos – can be found on the DPS website.
