Michigan Tech begins year-long celebration of 50 years of women’s sports

Diane Devine (Salinas), a four-year letter winner (1987-90) in women’s volleyball, helped the Huskies reach new levels during her career at Michigan Tech. She led the team to back-to-back third-place finishes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in her final two seasons, by far the best the Huskies had ever achieved.

Devine, an outside hitter, earned First Team All-Great Lakes Region honors in her senior season, becoming the first player at Tech to ever accomplish the feat. Additionally, she was named to the All-GLIAC First Team and received MTU’s Raymond L. Smith Award as the school’s top senior athlete.

Devine now holds the school record for most service aces in a season with 68, which she set in 1990. At the time of her graduation, she held the school marks for most career kills and most kills in a match.

Devine was selected as Second Team All-GLIAC her junior season and was also co-captain of the team her senior season. On November 3, 2001, she was inducted into the Michigan Tech Hall of Fame.
