Renowned nursing innovator joins FSU College of Nursing to create nation’s first nursing and AI innovation consortium

Rebecca Love, renowned entrepreneur, author and nursing innovator, joins Florida State University’s College of Nursing to lead the Nursing and Artificial Intelligence Innovation Consortium.

Acclaimed entrepreneur, author and nursing innovator Rebecca Love is joining Florida State University’s College of Nursing to launch the Nursing and Artificial Intelligence Innovation Consortium.

This unique program will be housed in the college’s Institute for Digital Health and Innovation and will strengthen the new MSN in AI, the nation’s first master’s nursing program in AI in healthcare.

Love will serve as a visiting professor and entrepreneur-in-residence. Her background in entrepreneurship and nursing positions has prepared her to lead the college’s new initiatives in AI and nursing.

“Rebecca is very comfortable with being first in many things,” said Jing Wang, dean of the College of Nursing. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that we can share with our students, the community and ultimately the nation.”

Love founded the Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs and Leaders; was the first nurse to give a TED talk and was a pioneer in addressing the nation’s nursing shortage crisis.

The new care and AI innovation consortium is co-led by Love, Wang and Dr. Lisa Hightow-Weidman, Distinguished and Endowed McKenzie Professor at the College and founding director of the Institute on Digital Health and Innovation (IDHI), led.

Hightow-Weidman, a renowned digital health researcher, leads more than $100 million in NIH-funded research and recently served on the organizing committee of the Academic Medical Education AI in Infectious Disease Workshop. Wang is a pioneering nursing leader in digital health and AI. She is a member of the AI ​​and Data Science Working Group at the National Institute of Nursing Research and co-leads the Direct-to-Consumer Workstream at the Coalition for Health AI (CHAITM), a national network dedicated to establishing responsible AI standards in healthcare develop and promote to ensure high quality, trustworthy and equitable AI applications. Each brings a unique leadership perspective, making the consortium the first of its kind to bring together emerging technologies with healthcare to address critical problems.

This new initiative will address the gaps in AI and care by creating a nurse-driven, research-backed, and industry-backed AI solution designed to improve nursing practice and patient care in a real-world setting.

As part of IDHI, Love will integrate academic research and industry innovations to develop care-focused AI tools, clinical workflow integration and patient care optimization.

“AI and digital health are fast-growing areas, and we are a national leader,” said Hightow-Weidman. “Rebecca’s first-hand experience will provide our students with real-world scenarios and shine a spotlight on potential partnerships within the industry. I’m excited to see what we’ll achieve together.”

A regular contributor to the Forbes Business Council, Love has been featured in various publications and networks including BBC, Fortune, Becker’s, AXIOS, STAT, Forbes Chief Healthcare Magazine and ABC News. She is the co-author of two books, “The Rebel Nurse Handbook” and “The Nurses Guide to Innovation.” In 2023, she founded the Commission for Nurse Reimbursement to address the nationwide nursing crisis and recently became co-chair of the Nursing is STEM Coalition.
