New main entrance, west wing of the Canton Potsdam Hospital now opened

POTSDAM – The brand new, 108,000-square-foot Regional Care Pavilion at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, including the main entrance, officially opened to the public on Tuesday, October 15.

The new main entrance is designed to allow you to easily drive to the door from Grove Street when you arrive at the hospital. The covered main entrance protects patients and visitors from the St. Lawrence region’s ever-changing weather and, in turn, provides a more comfortable and inviting first-stay experience for the patient.

Just inside, patients and visitors enjoy the thoughtfully designed and spacious Maresca Family Lobby, which features a large fireplace and abundant natural light to promote calm and reduce stress. New Casella Waste Systems, Inc. Information and Registration Desk staff will assist patients and visitors as they arrive. Each registration room is designed to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality. The new donor wall, small wing and outdoor terrace provide a pleasant experience.

Later this fall, visitors to the hospital will be welcomed into a remodeled Canton-Potsdam Hospital Guild gift shop stocked with essential items and gift ideas alike. Additionally, the SeaComm Federal Credit Union Café will open in the lobby, offering visitors access to a selection of coffee, tea and treats.

Sixty new private single occupancy patient rooms are 28 percent larger and feature individual bathrooms and family accommodations where medically appropriate. Each room is equipped with state-of-the-art Masimo wireless technology for continuous monitoring of vital signs and patient activity. Canton-Potsdam Hospital is proud to be one of only five hospitals in the United States and the first in New York State to offer Masimo technology. This is part of Rochester Regional Health’s vision to transform rural health care, with the St. Lawrence region leading the way.

Thoughtfully placed nurse stations on inpatient medical/surgical floors allow for improved visibility, improved communication and even more efficient bedside care. In addition to a better patient experience, clinical team members will have a modern, new environment to provide the exceptional care they are known for.

The hospital’s new emergency department (ED) opened a month ago, on September 17. It provides emergency personnel and patients with a more accessible and optimized entrance for urgent and emergency cases, a larger waiting area, new triage rooms for faster assessments and four new trauma rooms and 11 additional treatment rooms. The ED expansion is the only Level III trauma center in the region, which will help meet ever-increasing volume trends.

Rochester Regional Health is proud to offer a facility that matches the quality health care the St. Lawrence region has always provided. St. Lawrence’s goal is to create a more healing environment for all patients, and the health and well-being of all patients is our top priority.
