Deadly shooting in Milwaukee; 38-year-old man charged with absconding

A 38-year-old Milwaukee man is accused of fatally shooting a woman near 77th Street and the Capitol in September. The defendant is Antonio Johnson – and he faces the following crimes:

  • Reckless murder in the first degree
  • Bail jumping (crime)
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon

According to the criminal complaint, Milwaukee police were dispatched to the area near 77th and Capitol on Monday, Sept. 30, for a report of a shooting/homicide. It was initially reported that the victim was breathing. But despite treatment by the Milwaukee Fire Department, the victim died from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigator on scene interviewed a witness to the events. The woman said she lived with the victim in a vehicle at the scene. At some point that day, the witness got into an argument with the victim. The victim walked away.

The complaint states that a man, known to the witness as “P,” approached the vehicle and began arguing about a missing television. At one point the complaint states that “P” hit the witness.

According to the witness, the shooting victim heard the commotion and ran back to the vehicle. The complaint states that she “took some pepper spray and sprayed it on ‘P.'” At the same time as this happened, “P” dug into his pocket, “pulled out a gun and immediately fired at her legs.” The shooting victim eventually landed on the ground – and the witness realized that “‘P’ had shot (the victim),” the complaint states.

When the witness spoke to police, she provided a photo number associated with “P.” In a law enforcement database, the complaint states that this number was assigned to defendant Antonio Johnson. The witness also identified “P” as Johnson and “the person who saw her shoot and kill (the victim),” the complaint states.
