Community Companies Band Together to Offer Free Mammography Screenings – WHIZ

ZANESVILLE, OH – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and our community is making it easier than ever for women to get the care they need.

Genesis Healthcare System has once again partnered with Coconis Furniture and other local businesses to offer free mammography screenings. These screenings are aimed at women who are uninsured, underinsured or simply cannot afford a screening.

“Last year we were able to distribute 104 vouchers and have 73 people undergo mammograms. We’re really excited to start this year and try to exceed that. So far we have already awarded 44 certificates. We are confident that we are on the right track. “We have worked with Coconis, WHIZ and many other local companies so that anyone who needs a mammogram can have a mammogram, whether you have insurance or not,” Pebbles Thornton, director of cancer services, said.

These screening tests are crucial for the early detection of breast cancer and can save lives. Free mammogram vouchers are available at Coconis Furniture or Genesis Cancer Care Center.

“It’s so important. Look at how many people were able to get a mammogram last year who might not have been able to otherwise. We know that early detection of breast cancer saves lives. If you are someone who should have a mammogram every year, we want to help you get there and we don’t want finances to be a barrier.”
