Weld County Road 77 open to traffic

The second phase of work along Weld County Road 77 has been completed and reopened 11 days ahead of schedule, Weld road officials said.

The road project ran north of Briggsdale from Weld County Road 100 to Weld County Road 120, according to an Oct. 9 news release.

“We know this project has been a long detour for residents, and we thank them for their patience,” said Weld County Commissioners Chairman Kevin Ross. “We are pleased to see this road open ahead of schedule and look forward to continuing to improve WCR 77, a key transportation route in northern Weld County.”

The Weld County Road 77 crew worked on the road structure and installed a new road surface. To improve the road, they removed the existing asphalt, reused some and replaced the rest.

According to officials, the reconstruction of roads in this way was successful. Several roads in the county, including Weld County Road 77 between Highway 14 and Weld County Road 100, were completed using the same method last year.

“We know this road is heavily used by residents in northern Weld County, and the goal of our work has been to improve the road so it can continue to safely meet demand,” Department of Public Services Director Curtis Hall said Works of Weld County.

“We believe these improvements will achieve that goal, and the fact that we were able to meet our deadline is a testament to our team’s work ethic and our commitment to delivering the best improvements as quickly as possible.”

According to officials, Weld County Public Works also replaced seven culverts and lowered a hill that was causing visibility issues at Weld County Road 77, A Bright at Weld County Road 77, 106A north of Weld County 106.

The bridge was built with a new bridge deck, guardrails and a new driving surface. Rebuilding the bridge during its closure would facilitate future repairs on Weld County Road 77.

According to officials, $1.7 million was allocated from the county’s public works budget for this project. A Colorado Department of Local Affairs grant of $200,000 in November 2023 also helped fund construction.
