Henry Winkler calls Jelly Roll’s thank-you video message ‘amazing’

There’s a very good reason why Henry Winkler is considered one of the nicest guys in show business. The eternally radiant 78-year-old Happy days The veteran always brings good humor to his talk show appearances when he’s not taking the time to send fan notes to fellow artists who inspire him.

When visiting Live with Kelly and Mark On Tuesday (October 15), Winkler was predictably thrilled with one of his recent kind letters, which elicited an equally generous response as he shared how happy he was to receive a thank-you video from Jelly Roll.

“Oh my God, it was the most amazing thing coming from you and him responding,” Winkler told Ripa of receiving an equally sweet response from “I Am Not Okay” that the singer sent to the daytime talk show host had. Winkler explained to the studio audience that he often writes so-called “fan notes” to artists he admires. “And I wrote one to Jelly Roll, ‘Dear Mr. Roll,'” he explained. “And I never thought I would hear anything, and all of a sudden I got a video of Kelly with Mr. Roll thanking me!”

Ripa responded that serving as a conduit for the Mutual Admiration Society was “the most exciting thing that ever happened to me… it was for you, so it had nothing to do with me.” “It was great,” Winkler said before Ripa started the tape.

“Hey Mr. Winkler, it’s Jelly Roll,” the singer said in the clip, which was scrolled onto Ripa’s device. “I’m just sending my love. I was hoping to see you because I got a message and they said it was from you. I didn’t believe it and this is my publicist – she hates to be embarrassed but now she is – and she told me it was you, she confirmed it and I can’t tell you how much to me that meant.”

Jelly promised to send Winkler a photo of the letter when he got home. “I hope you don’t mind, I framed it. I put it on my wall where I have handwritten lyrics from Craig Morgan, all the things that were really special in my career. Thank you very much, I feel absolutely honored, Mr. Winkler. I can’t wait to see you and hopefully hug you, man. I’m a big hugger, I’ll hug you.”

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Last week, Winkler first revealed that he had sent the letter to the country star. “I really believe that when I see something that I think is wonderful, you have to let the person know,” he told the late-night host, who has received some of these kind messages. When asked who the final recipient was, Winkler said it was Jelly Roll after appearing on Kimmel’s show.

“I wrote him a letter, ‘Dear Mr. Roll,’ and all of a sudden I had a video on my phone again…it was unbelievable,” Winkler said. “I think he’s so full of emotion.”
