Thomas Tuchel can finally use a player Chelsea never wanted to sell as England coach

The FA confirmed the breaking news on Wednesday that Thomas Tuchel had been appointed as the new England head coach, and the former Chelsea manager has a good pool of knowledge when it comes to England players.

Thomas Tuchel is only the third non-English coach of the English national team after Sven-Göran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

Chelsea fans were thrilled by rumors that England would appoint Tuchel when they surfaced earlier this week. It is now official that the German coach will take up his new role on January 1, 2025.

Thomas Tuchel can finally use Tino Livramento

English players across the country will be wondering what Tuchel’s appointment means for them. For example, what will Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento think?

Newcastle’s 21-year-old right-back Livramento has been part of England’s main squad in recent camps. However, he is still waiting for his senior national team debut.

When Tuchel came to Stamford Bridge as coach in January 2021, he was an exciting young candidate at Chelsea. However, he never played in the Blues’ first team and was permanently sold to Southampton in the summer of 2021.

Interestingly, Tuchel later shared that he never wanted Chelsea to sell Livramento and that he planned to take him out on loan.

Tuchel said via Chelsea’s YouTube channel in April 2022: “For Tino Livramento, for example, we had a plan and we [would] I preferred a loan, but he saw his future [differently and decided] go. The situation was then better to agree to a sale.”

England options at right-back

We are definitely curious to see how Tuchel interprets the position of the English right-back.

Manchester City’s Kyle Walker has been the first choice in this spot for several tournaments. However, has he finally been overtaken by Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold?

Additionally, Man City’s versatile youngster Rico Lewis has broken into the English scene and can play at right-back. Will the change in leadership also bring Arsenal’s Ben White back into the game?

Chelsea fans are hoping their captain Reece James can play for his country again. It would be a great sight to see him and Tuchel reunited with England. At the moment, the Blues right-back can only think about his club form and trying to stay fit after such a bad series of injuries.

Then there is the interesting case of Livramento and his possible partnership with Tuchel.

We reckon the Newcastle full-back is currently slightly behind in the England starting XI rankings, but Tuchel’s previous comments could give him a boost.
