Big Lots Closings: More than 35 stores in Texas are forced to close

Texas will lose 39 Big Lots stores due to the discount retailer’s massive wave of closures this year.

According to KXAN, Big Lots will have closed or announced closures of a total of 494 stores nationwide by the end of 2024, representing nearly 36% of the stores that were open at the start of the year.

The Columbus, Ohio-based company announced in September that it had entered into an agreement with an affiliate of Nexus Capital Management LP under which Nexus would acquire all of Big Lots’ assets and ongoing operations.

To facilitate the acquisition, Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Delaware.

Over the past few months, Big Lots has made several announcements, each with a new list of stores scheduled to close. Starting October 13, 39 Big Lots stores in Texas will be closed.

All stores scheduled to close will have a banner on their location website indicating that they are currently conducting sales with discounts of between 20 and 30%.

There are currently 116 Big Lots locations open in the Lone Star State, more than any other state.

While Big Lots assures customers that it remains committed to continuing to provide “unique value and exceptional savings” and serving customers at the locations closest to them, more than half of affected Texas cities will lose their only Big Lots store .

Fort Worth and Houston will lose more than half of their Big Lots stores — three out of five and four out of six, respectively.
