Grand Theft Auto players will be used to committing crimes – in-game, of course.

However, a new Steam hit brings you to the other side of the law.

What if you took a Grand Theft Auto-style formula and flipped it so that your job was to take down the crooks and criminals?

Well, in the end you would end up with this The precinct.

Developed by Fallen Tree Games and scheduled to be published by Kwalee. The precinct is an upcoming open-world sandbox game that bills itself as a love letter to classic police films.

“Averno City, 1983. Gangs rule the streets and your father lies restless in his grave. Clean up the city, uncover the truth and embark on thrilling chases through destructible environments in this neo-noir action sandbox police game,” the synopsis reads.

Players take on the role of Police Officer Nick Cordell Jr., a young police officer fresh out of the academy.

You’ll explore the city on foot, in a patrol car, and in a helicopter, responding to everything from parking violations to gang shootings.

There is a day and night cycle, gangs to infiltrate, and you can choose to respond to a call alone or request backup.

The precinct There is no release date yet, but release is scheduled for the rest of this year.

Meanwhile, a new demo has been released as part of Steam Next Fest – and it’s proving to be one of the most popular new releases, hovering at the top of the event’s trending demo charts.

In addition to testing the free demo, you can also currently enter a free giveaway running throughout Next Fest.

To celebrate the launch of the demo, five giveaway winners will receive an ACPD police badge and a free copy of The precinct when launching on a platform of your choice.
