India will face arch-rivals Pakistan in the opening game SAFF Women’s Championship 2024 Football tournament scheduled to take place in Kathmandu, Nepal from October 17th to 30th.

The Indian women’s football team and Pakistan were drawn in Group A of the 2024 SAFF Women’s Championship alongside reigning champions Bangladesh, who defeated Nepal to win the 2019 edition.

Live streaming of the SAFF Women’s Championship, including the India vs Pakistan football game, will be available in India.

The Dasharath Rangasala Stadium in Kathmandu will host all matches of the 2024 SAFF Women’s Championship.

Group B of the five-team tournament includes hosts Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Teams in each group compete in a one-legged round-robin format and the top two finishers in each group advance to the semi-finals. The final will take place on October 30th.

The SAFF Women’s Championship football tournament was first launched in 2010 and is now in its seventh year. India, champions in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2019, enjoyed a monopoly over regional competition until Bangladesh broke the trend in 2022.

The Indian women’s football team had suffered a 1-0 defeat against Nepal in the semifinals of the last edition.

World number 68 India is the highest-ranked team in this year’s tournament, followed by Nepal (99), Bangladesh (139), Sri Lanka (157), Pakistan (158) and Maldives (161).

India head coach Santosh Kashyap has named a 23-member squad for the 2024 SAFF Women’s Championship. The squad includes Bala Devi, Dangmei Grace, Anju Tamang and Ashalata Devi.

Ashalata Devi is expected to create history when she takes on Pakistan in the opener on Thursday and becomes the first Indian to reach 100 international caps.
