Gas leak in San Francisco leads to evacuation of four buildings near Zuckerberg SF General Hospital

SAN FRANCISCO – According to the San Francisco Fire Department, a gas leak was reported Tuesday morning near Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, prompting the evacuation of some homes and businesses.

The department initially issued an alert on social media just before 10 a.m. about the natural gas leak in the area of ​​24th and Hampshire streets.

PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said it was a third-party team not employed by PG&E struck a 2-inch gas line and utility crews responded to stop the leak before making repairs.

The fire department announced at around 12:15 p.m. that the leak had been stopped and people were allowed to return to the affected buildings nearby. 24th Street between Potrero Avenue and York Street remains closed while crews repair the gas line.
