NBA fans celebrate Scotty Pippen Jr. News

Scotty Pippen Jr. is coming off his second season in the NBA.

The former Vanderbilt star averaged 12.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game in 21 games for the Memphis Grizzlies while shooting 49.3% from the field and 41.7% shot from three-point range.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Pippen Jr. will sign a standard contract with Memphis (he will be part of the 15-man roster).

About Charania: “The Memphis Grizzlies are signing two-way guard Scotty Pippen Jr. to a standard NBA multi-year contract, sources tell ESPN. Pippen had an impressive finish to the 2023-24 season and a strong NBA Summer League and preseason. Now he’s signing a guaranteed new contract.”

Many people celebrated the news.

@VinceGGCentral: “I’ve never been happier about a player being signed outside of Vince and GG.”

About Michael Wallace: “Congratulations to Scotty. Grizz President/GM Zach Kleiman vowed on media day that he would look to the current roster to fill at least one of two available standard roster spots that @memgrizz had in camp.

Move clears the 2-way spot that Scotty was holding. Could be a path for Yuki Kawamura. We’ll see!”

@AdamTaylorNBA: “Grizzlies have a proven development system. A solid landing spot for Scotty Pippen Jr. in my opinion.”

@BullsMuse_: “Congratulations to Scotty, he’s fighting to get into the league and now he’s here.”

@SixthManJake: “He’s always been a two-way guy 🔥🔥🔥”

@joshoco12: “Grizzlies are committed to finding these random two-way players and turning them into super quality players 😭”

The Grizzlies will play their first regular season game on October 23rd when they visit the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City.

Pippen Jr. is entering his third NBA season (he also spent time with the Los Anglees).
