4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release

The groundbreaking documentary of the 1999 Sundance Film Festival American film was released in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format to mark its 25th anniversary. After winning the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary Films at its first screening at the annual festival, the film has become an acclaimed cult favorite.

The disc is officially available today, October 15th. It is presented in 4K resolution with Dolby Vision and includes director and cast commentary as well as deleted scenes. It also contains an excerpt from Circlethe short film developed by Mark Borchardt, the eccentric subject of the documentary. Order a copy here.

The thoughtful, intense documentary focuses on Borchardt and his obsession with making films – despite living in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and having no budget. Filmed over two years, the heartfelt and thought-provoking project is a moving portrait of human ambition in the face of hardship and vice.

Borchardt’s good friend Mike Schank played along circle, wrote the music for the soundtrack and acted as an assistant on set and in the editing room. Their dynamic is one of the highlights of the film. Schank died in 2022 at the age of 56 after a battle with cancer.
