Björk announces Cornucopia: The Book

Björk’s ability to translate her musicality into a variety of artistic mediums remains undeniable, as evidenced by the newly announced 480-page picture book chronicling her acclaimed Cornucopia tour. Sophisticated sets, bespoke instruments, ethereal projections and lavish costumes come together to redefine what a theatrical musical performance can be in today’s world.

In addition to the artwork by director Tobias Gremmler, performances by the Hamrahlíð Choir and contributions from other musical and visual artists, Cornucopia: The Book immortalizes the meticulous work behind the ambitious live production. Designed by M/M Paris and photographed by Santiago Felipe, the softcover book features flaps with stitched sections.

Björk’s interest in avant-garde practices, including virtual reality technologies and 360-degree audiovisual software, manifests itself in a fully immersive, emotionally rich live experience.

“My intention was to bring what we had created for 21st century VR into a 19th century theater – from the headset to the stage.”

The Cornucopia stage strikes a balance between nature and technology. wood, metal and glass materials; surfaces structured with mycelium; floral patterned textiles; and deep sea colors and shapes merge seamlessly to create a sophisticated stage setting. Custom-made instruments and sound spaces push the boundaries of traditional performances. A magnetic harp, an aluminum phone, a round flute and a reverb chamber resembling a personal chapel, custom-built by an audio architect, enhance both the acoustic and intimate dimensions of Björk’s live show.
