Applications are open to Kansas City businesses that have experienced recent vandalism and crime

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A month ago, nearly 200 businesses expressed interest in a city fund to help them pay compensation and improve safety measures.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas announced Tuesday morning that the city’s Back to Business Fund program is accepting applications.

The grant program consists of two parts: recovery and prevention.

Ruby Jeans Juicery was a victim of vandalism earlier this summer.

Eligible storefronts must be located in Kansas City, Missouri, have consistent hours of operation, and have suffered physical damage from a break-in or vandalism or must have taken steps to prevent such incidents.

  • The remediation grant is up to $3,000 per business to reimburse vandalism from July 1, 2024 to July 31, 2025.
  • The prevention grant is up to $5,000 per business to reimburse them for eligible safety measures from July 1, 2024 to July 31, 2025.

In early August, there was a series of break-ins at businesses across the metro. The City Council passed the program in September and allocated $325,000 from the Violence Prevention and Intervention Fund for the new program.

The mayor’s office reported that 184 business owners had a common interest in the grant.
