Jets start shopping for Mike Williams

Davante Adams, another Jets receiver, will be the underdog.

And the underdog will, unsurprisingly, be Mike Williams.

According to a league source, the Jets will look to trade the veteran wideout, who was signed in the offseason, to a one-year deal.

Williams, the seventh pick in the 2017 draft, spent seven seasons with the Chargers. He suffered a torn ACL in Week 3 of 2023 and was injured by the Chargers earlier this year.

The Jets already have rising star Garrett Wilson. They also have quarterback AAron Rodgers’ No. 2 best friend in Allen Lazard. And they traded Davante Adams for Rodgers’ No. 1 best friend.

Williams and Rodgers have yet to click. In six games, he had 17 scores, 10 catches and 145 yards.

He had a fall last night, which won’t help him gain Rodgers’ trust. Then Williams broke off his pass route on the play that became the game-winning interception. And Rodgers called him out on it.

So no, don’t be shocked that Williams is the underdog. If he stays, he will be a WR4 at best. That’s far too low to justify his $10 million annual salary.

Who will want him? That remains to be seen. It also remains to be seen how much the Jets can get for him.
