WARRIOR FOOTBALL SET UP FOR NSIC SHOWDOWN IN AUGUSTANA

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State football travels to Sioux Falls, SD to take on Augustana University at Kirkeby-Over Stadium on Saturday, October 19th at 1:00 p.m.

The Warriors (3-3, 3-2 NSIC) have won convincingly in their last two contests, most recently defeating UMary 48-7. Augustana (4-2, 4-1 NSIC) traveled to Minot State last week and defeated the Beavers 20-7.

Winona State and Augustana have split their last two meetings, but the Vikings had the upper hand last season, defeating WSU 48-28 in Winona, Minn. The last time the matchup took place in Sioux Falls, Augustana won 38-20 in 2021.

Winona State Notes:

  • Winona State dominated UMary last week, winning 48-7 and improving to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the NSIC.
  • The Warriors’ defense held the Marauders’ offense to just 130 yards passing and 29 yards rushing.
  • Jackson Flottmeyer went 11-19 with 227 yards and 3 touchdowns and added another 72 yards on 8 attempts and 2 touchdowns. Flottmeyer was considered NSIC Offensive Player of the Week for his performances.
  • Ethan Torgrimson was also considered for NSIC Defensive Player of the Week honors after collecting four tackles, 1.5 TFL, a sack and two QB hurries while forcing and recovering a fumble.
  • Jacob Scott scored a total of 12 points, converting both field goals and all six extra points to be considered for NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week.
  • WSU allows NSIC opponents an average of 17.0 points/game, which is second best in the conference.
  • Winona State has the second-best pass defense in the NSIC, allowing opponents just 161.0 yards per game through the air.
  • The Warriors are the fourth-best team in the league at forcing fourth downs. WSU keeps opponents happy with a 3rd-down conversion rate of 32.9%.
  • Following this week’s game, the Warriors will face Bemidji State at home in Winona, Minn. on Saturday, October 26th at 1:00 p.m.


Augustana notes:

  • The Vikings, who receive votes in the AFCA Division II poll, are 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the NSIC. Their losses came against Division I FCS power, South Dakota State, and a bitter loss to MSU Moorhead.
  • Augie is averaging 28.00 points/game and allowing an average of 19.67 points per game.
  • The Vikings throw for 248.67 yards per game and run for 126.7 yards.
  • Gunnar Hensley spent most of his time at quarterback, throwing for 1,272 yards on 97-133 passing with 12 touchdowns and five interceptions.
  • Jack Fisher and Isaiah Huber were the top receiving targets. Fisher leads the team with 67.33 yards per game and five touchdowns, while Huber scored four touchdowns with an average of 57.17 yards per game.
  • Jarod Epperson leads the Vikings in rushing, averaging 74.20 yards per game on 5.4 yards/carry.
  • Will Davis collected 4.5 sacks and Myles Taylor also added 3.5 sacks. Haden Wallace has a team-high 49.0 tackles this season.
  • This is the 52nd annual Shrine Game for Augustana.
  • Next week, the Vikings travel to Minnesota State for kickoff on Saturday, October 26th at 1:00 p.m.
