Dua Lipa makes the Scandi-girl boxer shorts trend even bolder with a cherry-print bikini

Buduoir dressing is probably the biggest and most far-reaching trend of modern times. It started around 2016 when the Kardashian sisters started wearing bustier tops with ripped jeans on their regular paparazzi walks. A few years later, visible thongs started trending (with Dua Lipa at the forefront) and soon the near-nude trend had permeated the fashion scene.

These days, references to lingerie are popping up everywhere, from the Met Gala to the clubs to the bridal world. Although most come from women’s underwear (corsets, bustiers, embellished thongs, etc.), the latest version comes straight from the men’s department. The trend of summer 2024 was none other than the humble boxer shorts trend.

Although flaunting underwear has long been a trend in men’s fashion, this trend has recently been gaining traction in women’s fashion as well. Gingham shorts – in red, blue and pink – come from the Scandi Girl starter pack and have become a must-have for chill girls everywhere. And being the ultimate chill girl, Dua Lipa just gave the look her seal of approval.

During her vacation with her family, the pop star spent a lot of time on the water. In photos she posted to Instagram, she wore several bikinis, including a black set with white trim and a cherry-print triangle top from Frankies Bikinis. The latter was by far her best beach day look, styled with a pair of dark blue checked boxers.

When it was time for a little more sun protection, the “Dance the Night” singer changed into the matching top, which featured a bow at the neckline and the same gingham print. The combination of checks and cherries was a delightful combination that I will try to replicate next time I get the chance.
