Here are all the Padres players entering free agency after the 2024 season

The San Diego Padres’ 2024 season didn’t end the way they had hoped after catching fire in the final 62 games of the year. Even though they weren’t the favorites to beat the division rival Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS, it certainly felt like they had the momentum advantage, and falling short at 2-1 is looking day by day worse.

Unfortunately, as successful as the Padres’ season was, there’s little time to think about it. And the early exit won’t attract many plaudits. The official start of the offseason is just a few weeks away and AJ Preller has a lot on his plate as free agency hits.

Exactly five days after the conclusion of the World Series, players can sign with teams and trades are allowed again. Fans know the Padres will be active, but they have some internal business to take care of before things get started.

San Diego has a number of valued members of the 2024 roster heading into free agency, and their returns/departures will impact the rest of the team’s decision-making heading into 2025.

Here are all the Padres players entering free agency after the 2024 season

  • P C J Edwards
  • INF Donovan Solano
  • C Elias Diaz
  • OF Jurickson Profar
  • C Kyle Higashioka
  • P Martin Perez
  • P Tanner Scott

Padres players with contract options for the 2024 offseason

  • INF Ha-Seong Kim (mutual option of $7 million)
  • P Wandy Peralta ($4.3 million player option)

Solano, Diaz, Profar, Higgy, Perez, Scott and Kim will be considered significant losses if they are eliminated. Kim, by the way, will most likely decline his side of the shared option (and sign with a new team) after hiring Scott Boras as his agent just a few weeks ago. Although the Padres have been without him over time, it still hurts to lose a versatile defender at this price.

Peralta is expected to exercise his player option after posting a 3.99 ERA, 5.46 FIP and 1.20 WHIP in just 46 games.

On the surface, it looks like everyone except Scott and Kim are realistic options to keep. Solano, Diaz, Higgy and Perez haven’t necessarily committed to leaving San Diego, while Profar has expressed a desire to stay (though he should get a sizable raise if he does).

A number of other players will be up for raises through the arbitration system, so the Padres could make roster decisions based on that as well (which is a conversation for another day). However, for now, these are the final tasks that the Pads have to tackle this month and we can only hope that they do their best to stay ahead of things.
