Manteca is hosting a free Shred It event on Saturday

You have less than five days to collect confidential documents that you want to destroy to protect your identity and finances.

That’s because Manteca’s next free drive-thru shredding event is Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon.

In addition to handing in documents, the city will accept electronic waste, mattresses and up to nine tires free of charge.

As in the past, those dropping off items will be directed into lines at the solid waste department office on Wetmore Avenue, east of the shelter at the corner of South Main Street.

In the past, between 800 and 1,100 vehicles attended the shredder events, which take place twice a year.

The event is for City of Manteca residents only. No companies can participate. Proof of residency is required. This can be a copy of a municipal utility bill or a driver’s license.

Personal documents are accepted for destruction and are placed in boxes or plastic bags.

Electronic waste such as monitors, computers, printers, televisions, etc. is also accepted.

Mattresses are also accepted. Items that cannot be recycled include waterbeds, futons or fold-out sofas, air mattresses, mattress toppers, soiled/cut/wet/damaged mattresses, and any infested items.

The city offers other free recycling services.

*Electronic waste such as televisions, computers, printers, microwaves, telephones, etc. can be dropped off at the Solid Waste Division office on Wetmore Street, opposite the water tower, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

*Medical sharps and used batteries such as A, AA, AAA, C and D are also accepted at the Solid Waste Division office on Wetmore Street Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m

Used light bulbs can be dropped off at the Manteca Home Depot store.
