Autumn chill is setting in, the coldest afternoon since March

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – We’re giving you the first warning of cold in the air, not just in the mornings but some afternoons as well. Wednesday is expected to be the coldest afternoon we’ve seen since March!

TODAY

With the first cold front off the coast, you can expect a colder start to the day as you head out the door. Morning temperatures will be in the mid 40s inland and in the lower 50s on the beaches. Since there is plenty of sunshine today, there isn’t too much reason to worry.

Highs today will climb into the upper 60s, with isolated 70s or two possible. It’s the perfect day to get outside and enjoy the fall weather.

COOL MID-WEEK

An intensifying blast of cold air will move in LATE tonight and into early Wednesday morning as a secondary cold front moves through the area. Right now, the best chance for a shower with this front is in eastern North Carolina. However, if you wake up on Wednesday, you can expect more clouds in the area. More clouds and a breezy wind will accompany the cold front as temperatures start around 40°C inland. A cool morning awaits you on the beaches with temperatures over 40 degrees.

Winds will remain breezy and cold air will keep temperatures under control throughout the day on Wednesday. If you factor in the wind, Wednesday will feel more like a winter day for many of us, with highs just reaching 60°. Make sure children wear the jacket or extra layer throughout the day. With a high of 60°, Wednesday will be the coldest day for Florence and Myrtle Beach since March 19.

Our coldest nights of the week will come with clear skies and temperatures around 30°C inland on Thursday and Friday morning! Beach temperatures will drop to the mid 40s both mornings and these jackets will be needed for the morning hours. Thursday afternoon will remain cool, with high temperatures only rising into the lower 60s. We will reach the upper 60s again by Friday afternoon.

Prepare for a windy and chilly Wednesday, staying in the upper 50s for most of the day.
