MIFFLINTOWN — With the holiday season just around the corner, the Friends of the Juniata County Library hope you get in the shopping spirit.

They are hosting their first-ever 3-B sale Monday, Oct. 21, through Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the library, 498 Jefferson St., Mifflintown.

“A new concept for the Friends, 3Bs stand for bags, baskets and bundles” said Virginia Haubert, public relations director for the Friends of the Juniata County Library. “The friends will not only sell bags full of books for $7, but also gift baskets and packages of book series.”

As they did for the spring sale, the friends have also created themed baskets for the October sale. For example, there will be a kitchen basket with cookbooks, utensils, homemade pot holders and a bowl. Other themed baskets include gardening, Halloween, Christmas, and children’s books and items.

A very special one “cozy basket” includes a homemade afghan as well as some great reads and things to help you relax.

Recently the friends were lucky enough to receive complete sets of various book series. In the upcoming sale, the friends will be bundling the series and pricing it as one item. The Septimus Heap series, Divergent series and Fran K. Stein series, which are very popular among young adults, make excellent Christmas gifts. The Dragon Slayers series would also capture the imagination of many younger children.

At the Friends’ October sale, customers can fill their bags as usual with books, CDs, DVDs and magazines or purchase a puzzle for $3.

The friends are also offering their customers a free coffee table book with the purchase of every bag, while supplies last. The prices for the baskets and packages are calculated individually.

Proceeds from book sales benefit Juniata County Library programs and help update technology.

This spring, the Friends purchased 15 hotspots for the library to rent to patrons, and they recently purchased a staff computer and a book repair tool from Cover One.

“The Friends are grateful for the public’s support and hope this continues at the 3-B sale in October.” Haubert added.
