“Have faith!” Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman opens up about his return

It’s been a positive start to the season for Mike Elko and the No. 14 Texas A&M Aggies. They’re currently on a five-game winning streak, are undefeated in SEC play and should head to Starkville rested after their bye week.

But as we all know, it didn’t look like that at first.

Things got worse during the season-opening loss to Notre Dame when redshirt second-year quarterback Conner Weigman suffered a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder. Weigman eventually played the first half of the following game against McNeese State, but was later replaced by Marcel Reed for the remainder of the contest and the three games that followed.

Luckily for the Aggies, however, Reed performed well in relief. When Weigman returned to the starting role against Missouri, it was just like the Weigman of old, as he completed 18 of 22 passes for 276 yards and led the Aggies to a monumental win over the Tigers.

Obviously being on the bench wasn’t the best experience for the signal-caller, but he said he’s back to 100 percent now.

“It was hard not being able to play football. I like being out there with my brothers and having their backs,” Weigman said in his press conference Monday. “I’m back to 100 percent and just got my shoulder sorted out. I worked really hard these three weeks, me and everyone on the Aggie training team. We all worked pretty hard for three weeks after that. Finally back.” “Being able to come back and feel good feels really good.”

Weigman also talked about his faith and offensive coordinator Collin Klein in getting back into the swing of things.

“All you can do is have faith. If you lose faith, it’s hard afterward. I just have to trust God and what he has planned for me and this team,” Weigman said. “I feel like when I get backed into a corner, I come out swinging, like I’m not going down without a fight. That’s just who I am and that’s how I was raised. “Being able to go out there and stick with it.” “With the game plan that Coach Klein had and the confidence he had in me to go out there and sling the ball around, we just had a good game.”

The 12th Man can expect Klein’s faith in Weigman to continue this week when the Aggies travel to Starkville to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs for their second away SEC contest.
