Fact check: Actresses share the kiss? No, this video of Kareena and Kiara was created using AI technology

A series of videos purportedly showing prominent Indian actresses kissing have gone viral on social media platforms. The most talked about clip among these shows Kiara Advani and Kareena Kapoor Khan share a kiss.

Another clip also shows actresses Janhvi Kapoor and Nora Fatehi. Yet another feature Kajal Aggarwal and Tamannaah Bhatia. Archives of two such posts can be seen Here And Here.

India Today Fact Check found that these videos are AI generated. They were created by modifying still images of these actresses using an AI tool called Vidu.

OUR PROBE

If there had been real, publicly available videos of these fairly popular actresses kissing, it would have been all over the news. However, we did not find any such reports.

Second, several elements in these videos suggest that they are AI-generated. For example, in the video featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Nora Fatehi, their hand movements look extremely strange. In the other video, Kajal Aggarwal appears to be kissing Tamannaah Bhatia under the nose and above the lips.

HOW WERE THESE VIDEOS CREATED?

When we looked at it closely, we noticed the watermark of Viduan AI tool that can create realistic videos from still images. Vidu is one of many Tools are used to create short video clips of people hugging or kissing.

With Vidu, we created a video of AI-generated creatures with human bodies and animal heads kissing each other in seconds. This was very similar to the viral videos.

REAL PICTURES, FAKE VIDEOS

Using reverse search, we found that the viral video featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kiara Advani was made with a still image of a commercially for the beauty brand Tira. In the original picture, actress Suhana Khan also posed with them. However, she was edited out of the image when the viral video was made.

Similarly, Janhvi Kapoor and Nora Fatehi’s video was made from two separate images. While the Photo of the former comes from an episode of the celebrity talk show Coffee with Karanthe latter was taken over by a Advertising for nutritional supplements.

BODY PARTS CHANGED

We compared the viral video with the original images and found that some stills were altered to enlarge the actresses’ busts. In some cases, the images were even reversed or mirrored in order to juxtapose them in the video.

It is therefore clear that none of these videos are real.
