Riccardo Bigon appointed global technical director of City Football Group

Riccardo Bigon has been appointed as City Football Group’s new technical director of global football.

The 53-year-old Italian joined the organization last year from Bologna, where he was sporting director for six years.

City Football Group (CFG) managing director Ferran Soriano sent an email to staff this morning confirming the appointment, before holding a briefing to explain how the new structure will work.

Changes at CFG continue, with Manchester City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, set to be replaced by Sporting Lisbon’s Hugo Viana at the end of the season.

Brian Marwood is managing director of global football services and will remain in post, but Bigon will now work alongside him and take on more responsibility within the structure.

Marwood, 64, originally joined City as football manager in 2009 before taking up his current role. Although he will retain decision-making authority, he will now take on more of a mentor role within the group.
