Win Smart Victory Post #99

I may have mentioned that my main job is teaching mathematics to high school seniors. Our fall break is this weekend, and when Brother Podunk and I looked at the schedule for his annual trip to watch the Dawgs with me, he chose this weekend so we could spend more time together instead of picking a game , which means more is likely to be eventful.

A game time of 4:15 meant that we didn’t have to set an alarm, we could get up at will and still have enough time to get to the Classic City, park there and arrive at the Tate Center early enough, our preferred location for the Dawg Walk.

In this week’s Dawg Debate, the question was, “Is the fan experience the priority, or is it in the black?” I’d like to think that these things aren’t mutually exclusive. The Dawg Walk is always packed, the bookstore is always packed, a lot of people tailgating (and I would guess that the majority of people tailing aren’t actually attending the game at the stadium). I agree with MaconDawg – the Battle Hymn is untouchable – it was one of Podunk’s favorite moments the day she came, and one of the reasons she chose games in Athens over any other venue. I’d say “Saturday Night” is fine because the fighting has to stay that way – it’s definitely energetic and gets the audience going.

As we entered the stadium, USCjr started having Alabama fits, so we stopped to continue the game. That might have been a mistake because Alabama came back to win the game. Could the officials have perhaps shown highlights or *gasp* even shown the game on the jumbotron as fans filed in? I like the rotating view of all the Ugas and former Dawgs in the NFL, but maybe??? Or maybe the presentations from boosters, other athletes, etc. during the audition? All I know is that when I heard Brother P yelling “Go Gamecocks” I wanted to hit him (but when I understood where that feeling came from and actually wanted them to hit Bama themselves…).

But I agree – if you don’t know anyone to walk the street with (I don’t) and/or if you don’t know how/when to be at the Dawg Walk, then the fan experience could be improved. I may not have all the ideas, but I’m willing to try them out and give my feedback.

However, it is our intention to celebrate Georgia Bulldog football victories whenever and wherever they occur. The ugliness or beauty of a particular win is irrelevant for the purposes of the Winning Smart Victory Post. It is therefore my great honor and privilege to present to you this week’s edition of The Winning Smart Victory Post.

Coach Kirby Smart coached his 116th game for the Red and Black this week. He currently has a record of 99-17 and a winning percentage of .8534 after earning his ninety-ninth overall victory in the sixth game of the 2024 season against the Bizarro Bulldogs of Mississippi State.

At the same point in her career:

  1. Vince Dooley’s 116th game as head coach resulted in one Georgia Bulldogs Defeating the Ole Miss Rebels in the fifth game of the 1974 season, giving Coach Dooley a record of 79-33-5 and a .7026 save percentage.

Coach Mark Richt was 89-27 (.7672) after a loss to the Tennessee Volunteers in the eleventh game of the 2009 season.

One hundred and sixteen games into his head coaching career, Kirby Smart is ten games ahead of coach Mark Richt and 20 games ahead of coach Vince Dooley. He can currently hold his own against the two most successful coaches in the history of Georgian football.

As always. . .

Go buddy!!!!
