Cowboys vs. Lions live updates: NFL scores, game stats, news, highlights, where to watch the NFC showdown

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys began their Week 6 showdown with the Detroit Lions with a tough defensive battle without their top edge rushers (Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence), two of their top three corners (DaRon Bland and Caelen Carson) and top Central defender (Eric Kendricks).

Of course, given the injuries, the first half went as expected for the home team. The visiting Detroit Lions came out of the game with a 27-6 halftime lead and were looking for revenge for their controversial 20-19 loss at AT&T Stadium to the Cowboys in Week 17 last season. Dallas is now the second team in NFL history to have a halftime deficit of 15 points or more in four consecutive home games, including the playoffs. They joined the Raiders in this infamous club in 2013-2014. A chorus of boos and “Let’s go Lions” echoed through the stadium.

Lions running back David Montgomery opened the scoring early with a 16-yard rushing touchdown on Detroit’s opening drive. The rushing score marked Montgomery’s eighth straight game with a rushing touchdown dating back to last season, the longest streak in Lions history. He finished the half with 58 rushing yards and two touchdowns on nine carries, averaging a healthy 6.4 yards per carry. A strong start after re-signing to a two-year, $18.25 million contract on Saturday night.

On the other hand, Week 6 marked the second straight week that Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott made a tie between the lost fumble and the end zone interception intended for All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb on the Steelers in Week 5 Red zone error, and then he threw another interception intended for Lamb on Sunday against the Lions. Detroit safety Brian Branch undercut the throw aimed at Lamb in the back left corner of the end zone. The duo remains out of sync following Lamb’s contract denial this offseason. Prescott threw for 115 yards and completed 11 of 20 passes, while Lamb caught four of his nine targets for 46 yards. All of the Cowboys’ points were scored by All-Pro kicker Brandon Aubrey on field goals (34 yards and 47 yards).

Fast forward to the second quarter and the Lions scored a whopping 52-yard trick play touchdown against Dallas to take a 17-3 lead. Quarterback Jared Goff threw the football to Montgomery, who passed it to All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who then threw the football back to Goff. The Detroit passer then fired a perfect, arcing laser straight into the arms of All-Pro tight end Sam LaPorta for the touchdown. The Lions didn’t do anything stupid. They went for the early kill shot, and they nailed it. Goff finished the half with 178 yards and a touchdown on 11 of 16 passes.

Can Dallas fight back in the second half or will they continue to let the Lions do whatever they want on their home field? Stay tuned to our live blog to find out.
