Video: Second 2024 Candidates Forum highlights races for Carson City District Court Judge, School Board and District Assembly 40 | News from Carson City, Nevada

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in collaboration with Sierra Nevada Forums and AAUW Capital Branch, hosted the second of four forums on Wednesday, October 9th. The third forum will take place on Monday, October 14th.

The 2024 Candidates Forum highlighted elections for Carson City Circuit Court Judge, First Judicial District Department 2, Carson City School Board and Assembly District 40.

District Court Judges: Mark Krueger, Kristin Luis; Carson City School District Trustee District 2: Rebecca Roberts (rejected); District 5: Ashilee Saucedo, Mike Walker; District 7: John Henley, Michelle Pedersen; Assembly District 40: Philip “PK” O’Neill, Katherine Ramsey.

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in collaboration with the Sierra Nevada Forums and the AAUW Capital (NV) Branch, is presenting four free election forums featuring candidates and information on ballot issues on October 7 and again on Wednesday, October 9, and then on October 9th. October 14th and 16th starting at 6 p.m. every evening at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St in Carson City. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The forums are co-sponsored by the Nevada Appeal. The free forums will feature state and local candidates and experts on the issues that will appear on the Nov. 5 ballot. The forums are conducted with a live audience.

Candidates and speakers answer the moderator’s questions. Questions from the audience can be asked in writing. The forums can later be viewed on the Nevada Appeal’s YouTube page and through links on the organizations’ websites, Facebook pages or other social media.

“Voters who watch these forums can gain comprehensive information about the candidates and the election issues,” said Catherine Cunningham, LWVNNV board member.

The line-ups for the remaining evenings are as follows:

Oct 14, 2024: Voting Topics: Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar and Deputy Secretary of Elections Mark Wlaschin, Carson City Clerk-Recorder Scott Hoen (invited); Ballot Question 7: Voter ID Pro/Con Speaker; Ballot Question 3, Ranked Choice/Open Primary: Mock demonstration of ranked choice voting and pro/con speakers.

Oct 16, 2024: US House of Representatives, Congressional District 2: Mark Amodei, Greg Kidd; Voting question 1 Board of Regents, pro/contra speaker; Voting questions 2 and 4: explanations; Voting question 5 sales tax exemption for diapers, pro/con speaker; Voting question 6: Access to abortion in the constitution, pro/con speakers.

Absentee ballots will be mailed to all voters in Carson City. In-person early voting will take place Saturday, October 19th through Friday, November 1st. Election day is Tuesday, November 5th.
