Quinn Ewers on Georgia game after Red River Rivalry win: ‘You’ve got about 12 hours left and then it’s on to the next one’

After shaking off a slow start, Texas brings home the Golden Hat. Defeated the Longhorns Oklahoma 34-3 in the Red River Rivalry on Saturday, and Georgia wait next week.

But too Quinn EwersIt’s not quite time to think about the Bulldogs yet. He wants to enjoy the win over Oklahoma before looking ahead.

ABC’s Holly Rowe Ewers asked if he would face Georgia next week after Texas won its sixth straight to start the season. He said the Longhorns plan to savor Saturday’s win for about 12 hours before preparing for their next opponent.

“We’ll enjoy this on the way back,” Ewers said. “You have about 12 hours and then move on to the next one. Where we want to be at the end of the season, we have to keep going and keep improving. That’s what championship teams do. So we’re going to enjoy it for the next 12 hours or so.”

Quinn Ewers had a strong day leading the way for Texas. In his first game back from injury, he completed 20 of 29 passes for 199 yards and a touchdown. He suffered an abdominal injury UTSA and haven’t played since.

Saturday, he brought back the Golden Hat to Austin. He also received high praise from his head coach as Sarkisian reflected on the last month since Ewers last took the field.

“When you wait that long to play, like a month off, you get a little bit of rust,” Sarkisian said. “But I thought I settled in and made some really competitive plays, especially on third down.”

Texas ended Oklahoma’s four-game winning streak in the Red River Rivalry in 2022, but the Sooners returned to the winning side in thrilling fashion last year. The Longhorns responded with their second rivalry win over OU in three years with Ewers at quarterback, and he reflected on what that meant after Sarkisian presented him with the Golden Hat.

“It feels good to finally have it back,” Ewers said. “I couldn’t be more proud of the boys and the hard work we’ve done. It’s nice to finally be back on the field with my boys. I missed two games. I didn’t play the way I necessarily wanted to, but I think overall it’s the way we play football – that’s what gives us chances to win games, the free football, that we play as a whole.”
