First War of Destiny added for display

Florida native War of Destiny has yet to make his first start but has instilled enough confidence in trainer Mark Casse to be included in Sunday’s CA$125,000 show at Woodbine Racetrack for his career debut.

Casse and owner Gary Barber paid the additional fee of CA$2,500 at the time of entry to qualify War of Destiny for the seven-furlong competition, where he will make his debut against four other two-year-olds competing seven furlongs on the all-weather -The main route is covered by rail.

War of Destiny is from the first crop of War of Will, who won the 2019 Preakness (Grade 1) and 2020 Maker’s Mark Mile (G1) at Keeneland for Casse and Barber. War of Destiny was bred in Florida by Wind Will Farm and is descended from the winning Curlin mare Lin Marie. He is also a half-brother to multiple stakes-placed Dream Marie, who finished second in both the 2020 Delaware Oaks (G3) and Rampart (G3) and third in the Werdena Dale (G2). Lin Marie also produced the winner Home Port from three starters.

War of Destiny has posted three solid finishes over the Woodbine track, including a four-eighths-mile breeze in :47.20 on September 25, which was the fastest of 22 winds on the track that morning. He last completed five furlongs in 1:00.60 on October 2, the third fastest of 11 exercises at that distance that morning.

Casse, who has won the display six times, including in 1999 with Florida-born Precise End, handed the mount to Sahin Civaci at War of Destiny. They have post three and are 9-2 in the morning.

At the other end of the experience spectrum, Cairo Caper has four starts to his name, the most among display competitors.

Trained by Nathan Squires for William B. Thompson Jr., Cairo Caper returns to the Woodbine Artistic competition after a two-for-three win on home turf, including winning the $152,000 bet365 Soaring Free over six and a half furlongs. 23 and a first July 4th special over six furlongs. Most recently, Cairo Caper was fifth in the Grade 1 bet365 Summer, which New Century won by a mile on September 14th.

In his only start on the all-weather circuit, Cairo Caper finished third in a five-furlong first special weight won by Your Valentino in May.

Cairo Caper is by Cairo Prince out of Summer Clothes by Summer Front and has earned $110,701 with two wins in four starts and a third.

He is the 2-1 favorite in the morning and Jose Campos will start from fourth place on the grid.

Also registered are He’s Not Joking, ridden by Kazushi Kimura, Thundering and jockey Eswan Flores, Mansetti with rider Leo Salles and Rafael Hernandez riding Bucaro.
