EEvery morning, 77-year-old Mario Bilich visited his wife’s grave before stopping by a club to play Italian cards and drink espresso with his friends.

It was his regular morning routine, something he had done since his wife died of cancer in 2022, his heartbroken family said The Toronto Star, One day, the beloved retired teacher was stabbed to death in broad daylight in the parking lot outside the club.

Bilich was the third victim of a horrific shooting spree in southern Ontario earlier this month, allegedly by a woman described by Canadian authorities as a suspected serial killer.

Sabrina Kauldhar, 30, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Bilich.

She was also charged with second-degree murder in the Niagara Falls killings of Lance Cunningham, 47, and Trinh Thi Vu, a woman believed to be in her 60s. The Toronto Sun reported.

The killings began on October 1 when Toronto police searched a basement apartment and found a woman’s body with signs of “physical trauma.”

The next day, police responded to John Allan Park in Niagara Falls and discovered that 47-year-old Lance Cunningham, a loving father and chef, had been stabbed in an attack while walking his dogs. He died at the scene.

According to Hamilton police, Bilich was found stabbed to death in a parking lot around 12:26 p.m. on Oct. 3. Hamilton is just outside of Toronto. He was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

The same day, Kauldhar was arrested after police said she was linked to the killings of three people within three days in Toronto, Hamilton and Niagara Falls.

The Niagara Regional Police Service claimed Kauldhar was only known to be the Toronto victim, while Cunningham and Bilich were “randomly targeted.”

Niagara Region Police Chief Bill Fordy said investigators are working with law enforcement agencies across the province to determine whether there may be additional victims.

“I think by definition she is a serial killer,” Fordy told reporters when asked if she would like to describe her as a serial killer.

“Two or more felonies, so I think that’s a fair comment by definition.”

The killings have shocked communities across southern Ontario as investigators search for a motive for that rare breed of suspected killer: a woman on a seemingly random killing spree.

The victims

In a heartbreaking post on Facebook, Mario Bilich’s daughter Antonella Greco wrote that her family was devastated by the tragic news of his senseless knife attack.

“We are at a loss for words,” she wrote.

Greco did not know whether her father, whom she described as a devoted husband, father and “Nonno”, a poet, a “walking encyclopedia” and a “ridiculously generous” person, had the opportunity to visit his wife’s grave that day was killed.

She explained that her father wanted to be sent “home” to be with his mistress and that this had now happened, although “certainly not in the way we had intended or imagined.” she wrote.

“He was taken away from us far too quickly, far too abruptly, far too violently.”

Lance Cunningham, 47, a chef at Fallsview Casino, was walking his dogs in John Allan Park shortly before 3 p.m. Oct. 2 before picking up his daughter Piper from school.

He never made it.

The “fun-loving” father, who was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, enjoyed hiking and spending time with his wife Kim and daughter, was stabbed in the brutal, random attack.

According to his obituary, Cunningham worked as a chef at the Niagara Fallsview Casino for more than 15 years and enjoyed fishing, hiking and road trips with his daughter and their dogs.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help his family pay for funeral expenses.

“Lance touched the lives of many people as he lived and worked in our community, volunteered at school events, and was an all-around kind-hearted baseball dad and Steelers fan,” his friend wrote.

“A senseless death that stunned the entire community. Let us show our support to his wife and daughter during this painful time.”

A woman identified as Trinh Thi Vu, according to court documents The Toronto SunHe is considered the first victim of the rampage.

Toronto police said officers responded to a call at the woman’s Keele Street home just after 2 p.m. on Oct. 1.

She is believed to be in her 60s, but police have not released her age or any other information about her.

The woman is believed to be the only one of the three victims who knew Kauldhar.

Who is the alleged murderer Sabrina Kauldhar?

Kauldhar, dressed in a lime green tracksuit with her hair wrapped in a black durag, met Justice of the Peace Jennifer Veenboer on a Zoom call from the Vanier Center for Women in Ontario.

Her lawyer Sherif Foda told the judge they had “concerns about her fitness” and called for the trial to be postponed so Kauldhar could undergo a mental health assessment.

Kauldhar wavered on Zoom video as she was told she should next appear in person at the Toronto courthouse on Oct. 17.

Kauldhar, the daughter of two dentists, was once a happy and intelligent student, said an unknown high school friend The Toronto Sun.

“She was a straight-A student and very active in sports, playing ice hockey at a high level and figure skating when she was young,” the friend said, adding that Kauldhar struggled after her mother died in 2020, aged 54 died suddenly years ago.

The classmate added: “Pretty much everything I can say was ages ago [she] “Always just been a happy, fun person with a good head on her shoulders and all the resources she could want to be wildly successful, but she clearly went down a bad path.”
