SLO County is seeking to fill vacant seats on the Homeless Services Board

San Luis Obispo County is calling on community members to apply to join the Homeless Services Oversight Council by October 7th.

Officials say HSOC’s purpose is to implement the plan to address homelessness throughout SLO County. The council is also working with partners across the region to ensure the effectiveness of programs to support community members at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness, according to a news release.

County officials are seeking a group of service providers, government officials and engaged citizens interested in the initiative.

According to the city, there are currently eight positions open for those interested to apply. These community members represent multiple community sectors, including currently or formerly homeless individuals, public safety organizations, victim services providers, behavioral health agencies, organizations serving homeless veterans, and businesses.

“We encourage individuals from all backgrounds – particularly those with practical experience, public safety experience or those representing businesses and service organizations – to consider applying,” said Laurel Weir, administrative services manager for the San Luis Obispo County Department of Homeless Services , in a press release. “Your voice and expertise can make a meaningful difference to the future of homelessness services in our community.”

According to officials, the council meets every two months, with targeted subcommittees meeting every one to two months.

Online applications are due by October 7th at 5:00 p.m. Community members can visit the SLO County HSOC membership website for more information and to submit an application.
