This is the most RV-friendly city in the USA

Over 11.2 million U.S. households own an RV – that’s a lot of campers and RVs. And every RV owner probably has a different idea of what makes a location suitable for RVing. For some it’s all about finding a place that offers access to amenities and entertainment, while for others it’s all about access to nature.

RV Trader, an online classifieds site where you can buy and sell RVs, has over 160,000 new and used RVs for sale at any given time. By relying on the information they’ve gathered from the millions of monthly buyers who search on RV Trader (as well as their personal experiences and love of RVing), they’ve determined what RV City USA is – at least for 2024.

“The most important criterion for our No. 1 RV city is that it has something to offer for everyone,” says the article with the results published in early September. Additionally, they considered affordability and drivability, looking for a destination that was “quintessentially American.”

They chose Washington, DC, a city now officially nicknamed “RV City USA” by the folks at RV Trader. It’s one of the most affordable big cities in the world thanks to its long list of free things to do, including monuments, museums and national parks. (Remember: if you have an RV, you don’t have to worry about accommodation!)

There is also great entertainment – for every taste. There’s a great architecture and art scene, as well as professional sports, concerts and access to nature. And as RV Trader notes, “There is definitely no place more American.”

For most RVers, Washington, DC has it all. It’s a great place to park, set up camp and enjoy the many (mostly free) activities. It also has excellent public transportation, so you can leave your vehicle at home. The only downside to Washington, DC, according to RV Trader, is that it can be difficult to get to if you’re coming from the West Coast. However, they rightly note that “every American should come here at least once in their life and the trip is worth it.”

RV Trader has also included some recommendations for campsites. You can stay on the Maryland side of Washington, DC in Cherry Hill Park and take the train into the city (just over an hour) to stay at the Capitol KOA. Greenbelt Park Campground is even closer to the city and is managed by the National Park Service as part of the National Capital Parks East.

If you’re in a smaller RV, you may even be able to find overnight parking in or near the usual suspects in town.
