Gamers continue to delight in Helldivers 2’s satisfying gameplay, almost making fans forget that the series was originally a twin-stick shooter. Luckily, that’s about to change, as a recent leak has seemingly confirmed the return of the original costumes from this older PSN classic.

As a live shooter, the Arrowhead shooter was the victim of numerous leaks, but that did little to slow his momentum. Dataminers have already revealed plans for a new Warbond and faction, which should please fans wanting more options. Leaks have also announced new drivable vehicles for the game, but we’ll have to wait and see if they happen.

Helldivers 2 brings back the armor from the first game

A post on the Helldivers 2 subreddit revealed these original armor designs in the sequel and revealed plans to bring these cosmetics to the sequel. Considering how Arrowhead worked in both games, it feels right that the Federation’s original look was updated for this more modern sequel. The post claims that these cosmetics will be released on “Federation Day,” which falls on October 26th, so they will be hitting the market soon.

The Reddit post also includes a description that references some of the first game’s enemy factions. It reads: “This classic armor set will be recognized by every citizen: worn by the heroic Helldivers who fought and defeated the Terminids, Cyborgs and Illuminati forever in the First Galactic War.”

Seeing hints of the older game will bring a smile to the faces of those who signed up for Super Earth’s mission in 2015. It’s crazy to think that this twin-stick shooter from the PS3 and PS4 era would have a sequel that makes such a big impact. Considering how many more updates are coming to the game, this shooter will go down in history as one of the best titles of the generation.

Is there more nostalgia to come?

Considering how nostalgic modern media has become, we’re surprised Arrowhead waited so long to add these armors to Helldivers 2. The sequel maintains the tongue-in-cheek nature of the first game when it comes to how evil Super Earth is. but so far it has been limited to that.

We saw how strong everyone’s nostalgia was for Sony’s acclaimed Astro Bot platformer, with nods to characters from all corners of PlayStation’s past. Seeing all of these iconic heroes and villains even led to gamers purchasing some of these older titles, showing how much the PlayStation products are loved.

Unfortunately, Sony seems to be getting the wrong nostalgia message here, as the company is releasing a Horizon Zero Dawn remaster for some reason. The original game still looks great and has a 60fps patch on PS5, so that doesn’t make sense.
