Wales U21: Rubin Colwill and Charlie Savage in the Czech Republic squad

Jones said the senior internationals will have no problems returning to the under-21 team.

“In the past, these were considered difficult challenges,” he said.

“But I talked a lot about creating and ensuring a culture in the group [it is fine] If they play across age groups – whether it’s going up or down the age groups – I’ve done both in the last few years.”

He added: “The mentality of the players was refreshing. We helped them deal with their ego, their expectations and their ambitions.

“But it definitely puts us in a healthy situation. Who wouldn’t want a Rubin Colwill in their squad? Who wouldn’t want a Charlie Savage or possibly Owen Beck?

Sheffield United midfielder Owen Hampson is one of two uncapped players in the squad alongside Wolves goalkeeper Lewys Benjamin.

Wales have suffered a setback with Crawley’s on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Ed Beach – who played six of the seven group games – ruled out through injury, while Wycombe’s Joe Low is suspended.

Wales sit top of their qualifying group alongside Denmark. Jones’ team can automatically qualify for the finals if they better the result of Denmark, who play their final game against Iceland on October 15.

A draw against the Czech Republic would be enough for Wales to at least reach the play-offs for the first time since 2008.

“I’m really looking forward to playing this home game – that’s what we’ve been preparing for,” Jones said.

“I felt for a long time that it was going to be a failure until the last game, and it definitely is.”

After the game against the Czech Republic, Wales will fly to Slovakia for a friendly on October 15th.
