Defensive tackle Kalia Davis, who has been on injured reserve since August 27 following knee surgery, was invited to practice by the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday. This move gives the team 21 days to take him off the injured list.

“He’s close,” Shanahan said of Davis on Monday. “There’s a good chance we’ll open his window this week. I would be surprised if it wasn’t open for training on Wednesday.”

Meanwhile, rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, who remains on the non-football injured list (NFI), has not had his practice window open. Pearsall is recovering from a gunshot wound to the chest sustained during an Aug. 31 robbery.

When asked about Pearsall’s status on Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan stated, “We haven’t decided yet. We have to think about it here today and tomorrow. But no, we haven’t decided that yet.”

Davis could help bolster a defensive line that recently lost defensive tackle Javon Hargrave for the season due to a partially torn triceps. Additionally, defensive tackle Jordan Elliott is the focus this week after suffering a knee injury in Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

The 49ers hope Davis, a sixth-round pick by the team in 2022, can make a significant impact upon his return.

Additionally, the 49ers announced that they have signed defensive lineman Jonathan Garvin and wide receiver Terique Owens to the practice squad, while they have released defensive lineman Shakel Brown from the practice squad.

The staff at 49ers Communications provided the following overview.

Garvin (6-4, 257) was originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round (242nd overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. During his three-year NFL career with the Packers (2020-22), Garvin appeared in 38 games (one start) and recorded 32 tackles, two passes defended and 1.5 sacks. After being released by the Packers on July 28, 2023, Garvin spent time with the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL), where he recorded 19 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Garvin signed with the 49ers on August 9, 2024 and was released by the team on September 10.

Garvin, 25, is from Lake Worth Beach, Florida. He attended the University of Miami (2017–19), where he appeared in 38 games (24 starts) and recorded 106 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, five passes defended and four forced fumbles.
Owens (6-3, 200) originally signed with the team as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 6, 2024 and was released on August 15.

Owens is 25 years old and hails from Pleasanton, California. He attended Contra Costa (CA) Community College (2018) and Florida Atlantic (2019–20) before transferring to Missouri State (2021–23), where he appeared in 38 games (two starts) and registered 61 receptions for 1,071 yards and six touchdowns.

Brown (6-3, 295) was originally signed to the practice squad on September 25, 2024.
