Crime-ridden Louisville Manor Motel on Dixie Highway closed after losing appeal | Business

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A motel on Dixie Highway in Shively known for police activity and crime has been ordered to close immediately.

The Louisville Manor Motel appealed an early eviction order, but at a hearing Wednesday, Louisville’s Department of Codes & Regulations ruled against the motel and gave it one hour’s notice to close. The owner must still pay a $2,000 fine.

Action was taken quickly. Shively police and other agencies arranged for anyone “currently residing or using the motel” to be removed from the motel starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. After everyone had left the area, the emergency services began boarding up the windows.

The immediate closure includes everything on the motel property, including an adult bookstore and a theater.

In September, the motel was given several days’ notice to close after a report of criminal activity was issued. In other words, the police had been called there too many times.

Shively police told WDRB they have received more than 200 calls to the address since the beginning of the year, including prostitution attempts, overdose deaths, vehicle thefts, drug deals, drug deals, assaults, violent situations and someone randomly firing a gun on the Parking.

Shively police said not long ago they tried to work with the motel on improvements such as stopping cash payments and increasing lighting in the parking lot, but those efforts were unsuccessful.

Louisville Manor still has the option to appeal the closure in Jefferson County District Court; However, the closure order remains in effect until the court makes a decision. There is no word on whether the motel owner will pursue the case.
