Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce shared his feelings Wednesday about teammate Rashee Rice suffering a potentially serious knee injury during the team’s Week 4 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

On his speaking New heights Podcast (starting at 42:22)Kelce had this to say about Rice’s injury after such a spectacular start to the season:

“It won’t be any easier if Rashee goes down during the game. I just love the way this guy played the game of football, the way he attacked every day in training. Sometimes you just root for the guys so much. “Do it right, and Rashee did that, man. It was a big shock to me when I saw him go down, man.

In the first quarter of the Chiefs’ 17-10 victory over the Chargers on Sunday, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was intercepted by Kristian Fulton.

Rice rushed to chase Fulton from behind and force a fumble, but amid the chaos, Mahomes fell awkwardly into Rice’s legs and the receiver immediately clutched his knee.

The Chiefs’ medical staff examined Rice on the sidelines before he was carted back to the locker room, and he was almost immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game.

After the game, ESPN’s Adam Schefter (h/t ESPN’s Adam Teicher) reported that the Chiefs feared Rice suffered a season-ending ACL tear. However, this has yet to be confirmed, and Schefter (h/t Teicher) provided another report on Monday, noting that the extent of the injury remains unclear as further testing is required.

Regardless, it appears Rice could be in danger of missing significant time, which is a major blow to Kansas City’s offense.

Through the first three games of the season, Rice was among the most productive wide receivers in football, recording 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns.

Rice’s injury is even worse because wide receiver Hollywood Brown is also out with an injury that will likely keep him out the entire season.

That leaves Mahomes with rookie first-round picks Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Justin Watson and Skyy Moore as his top wideouts.

They all need to step up while Rice is out, but Mahomes will likely lean most heavily on Kelce, who finally had a breakout game with seven receptions for 89 yards on Sunday after a slow start to the season.

Kelce is a future Hall of Famer and one of the greatest tight ends of all time, and he showed in last season’s playoffs with 32 catches for 355 yards and three touchdowns in four games that he still has what it takes, the core of a game to be attacking when necessary.
