How to download Windows 11 24H2 update from Microsoft servers

Windows 11 24H2 is Microsoft’s biggest update of the year, just rolling out in the US. While the update is rolling out gradually, the Windows 11 24H2 ISOs are already available on Microsoft servers. This is the first stable public 24H2 release.

As we correctly reported, the Windows 11 24H2 update was officially released on October 1, 2024. We already have several Windows 11 ISO variants available for download, including Windows 11 Consumer Edition, Windows 11 (IoT) Enterprise LTSC 2024 ISO and Windows Server 2025 ISO. The ARM64 versions can be installed on ARM-based PCs such as Snapdragon X Elite and have all Copilot + Recall features.

As far as features go, the update is called AI PCs as it packs tons of AI features including Copilot + Recall. However, they are only limited to Copilot+PCs. For normal PCs, the Windows 11 update brings the following:

1. Live subtitles with translation: Live captions can translate spoken language in real time.
2. Improved context menu: The context menu now includes labels to easily identify what each button does and address user feedback.
3. Wi-Fi 7 support: Windows 11 24H2 includes support for Wi-Fi 7, promising a faster and more reliable wireless connection.
4. Scrollable quick settings menu: Users can now scroll through the quick settings menu to access more options.
5. 7-Zip and TAR archives in File Explorer: Users can create 7-zip and TAR archives directly in File Explorer.
6. “sudo” command: The sudo command is now available in Windows 11, allowing users to run elevated commands.
7. HDR background support: Windows 11 24H2 adds support for HDR backgrounds, improving the visual quality of the operating system.
8. Other changes: The update includes various other improvements and bug fixes, such as: B. a new power saving mode, Windows Protected Print Mode and improved sound settings testing tools.
9. Phone Link integration with the start menu
10. Hot patching – New method for downloading some updates that reduces time, bandwidth and storage space required. Also reduces the frequency with which updates require a reboot.
11. HDR wallpaper support
12. PPerformance improvements for AMD processors, AMD GPUs, Nvidia GPUs
13. Better performance for Windows Explorer
14. New setup experience when booting from the installation media

How do I download the latest Windows 11 update?

There are several ways to update to download and install the latest Windows 11 update. While the easiest way is to go to Windows Settings > Windows Update > Check for Updates, this may not work for Windows 11 24H2 as it ships fresh.

The 24H2 update is currently being installed on Microsoft servers in the US. If you don’t mind the international ISO, download it below. Note that you can always change the language and region later.

1. Download the Windows 11 installation wizard

If you download the Windows 11 Update Assistant, you can also easily update to the latest version. Just get the Windows 11 Installation Wizard EXE file and run the installer.

Step 1: Visit the Windows 11 download page on the Microsoft website.

Step 2: Download Windows 11 Installation Wizard (Direct Link)

Step 3: Install the Windows 11 installation wizard on your PC.

Step 4: Start the Windows 11 installation wizard on the PC.

Step 5: Follow the on-screen instructions.

2. Download Windows 11 Media Creation Tool

Alternatively, you can also settle for “Create Windows 11 installation media”. OR: Download the Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO).

Step 1: Visit the Windows 11 download page on the Microsoft website.

Step 2: Make sure you have a USB stick or external drive with enough space where you can create an ISO file.

Step 3: Scroll down and download the Windows 11 Installation Media installation app.

Step 4: Run it on your PC and create an installation media on a USB stick.

Step 5: Run Windows 11 installation at startup.

Finally, Windows 11 24H2 ISO is now available for download directly from the Microsoft website. You can choose the language and everything.

• Install the update.
