Late Night weighed in on the Tim Walz vs. JD Vance debate on Tuesday (October 1) and the verdict is “boring.”

Stephen Colbert opened Tuesday’s episode of The Late Show I’m talking about the vice president debate, which aired live on CBS at 9 p.m. ET. In his monologue, Colbert referred to Vance and Walz as “different flavors of boring.”

“JD Vance looked like a business lemur on beta blockers, and Tim Walz was, you know, the nice old coach but seemed way too caffeinated,” the late-night host joked.

Colbert also focused on Vance’s claims that former President Donald Trump “peacefully relinquished power on January 20, as we have done for 250 years in this country.”

“Yes, after his coup failed!” Colbert replied. “It’s like a toddler saying, ‘Look, I went to bed peacefully at 8 p.m., and I think it’s time we stopped focusing on the 45 minutes I spent screaming and biting the babysitter because I wanted more blowjob.’”

When Vance tried to compare January 6th to Hillary Clinton complaining about Russian disinformation on social media, Walz responded, “January 6th was not a Facebook ad.”

“He’s right, that’s not true,” Colbert said. “But if it were so, there would be ten strange tricks to overthrow the will of the people! Mike Pence can’t stand number six!'”

Summarizing his thoughts on the debate, Colbert said, “Ultimately, it was 90 minutes of uninterrupted conversation that made one thing clear: Tonight was like celebrating Thanksgiving with your most nervous uncle and your most smug nephew.” It was awkward, awkward and Luckily you only have to do it every four years.”

Now move on Jimmy Kimmel Live!Kimmel noted that the vice presidential candidates showed “great respect” for each other, but that this resulted in a “very boring” debate.

“Honestly, I like these ones with Trump better, really,” Kimmel quipped.

The comedian also said he “felt bad” for Vance because he “had to defend Donald Trump, whom he himself openly denounced.” He added: “It’s like being Diddy’s defender.”

Overall, however, Kimmel questioned whether the debate was enough to change anyone’s vote.

“It’s like taking your kids apple picking: About halfway through you’re like, ‘Okay, you know what, that sounded like it would be fun, but what’s the point?'” he joked.
