DC announces “coolest project ever” with Batman spin-off | Television & Radio | Showbiz and television

DC Studios and Warner Bros Pictures Animation have delighted fans with the announcement of a new Batman spin-off, Dynamic Duo.

The animated film, currently in production, will explore the origin stories of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, both of whom comic fans know as Robin, Batman’s sidekick.

While some stories see Grayson evolve into Nightwing and Todd evolve into Red Hood, it remains unclear whether these narratives will appear in the upcoming film.

Matthew Aldrich, who previously wrote Pixar’s Coco and Lightyear, will pen the screenplay for Dynamic Duo.

Following the announcement, fans have been circulating a demo reel from Swaybox, the New Orleans-based studio tasked with overseeing animation for the project, the Daily Star reports.

The one-minute compilation features a variety of animated characters and scenes, demonstrating the different styles available to the husband-and-wife team behind Swaybox, Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson.

Mintz is set to direct the new film and, according to Deadline, Swaybox uses a technology called Momo animation, which combines CGI, stop-motion elements and live-action performances.

The footage offers a tantalizing glimpse into an innovative direction in animation and has many Batman enthusiasts buzzing with anticipation. It’s widely believed that this new version will rival Marvel and Sony’s acclaimed Spiderverse series.

One excited fan expressed his excitement on

Another fan expressed optimism about the film’s prospects, despite it being outside of the upcoming DC film universe, which is expected to begin with James Gunn’s Superman Legacy.

They noted, “While I hate that this is another film that won’t be part of the DCU, I think this has the potential to be a top-notch animated film like Spiderverse.”

Echoing these sentiments, another fan saw the collaboration on the project between Matt Reeves and James Gunn, who will serve as producers, as an encouraging sign. They commented: “Given that both Matt Reeves and James Gunn are working on this project, it gives me great hope. It’s extremely far out, but it could be a good thing. Spider-Verse was originally considered way out there too.” And look how that worked out.

Meanwhile, The Penguin’s opening episode garnered an impressive viewership of over 5 million worldwide, but it’s worth noting that “Dynamic Duo” doesn’t align with the HBO series or fit into Matt Reeves’ narrative of the Batman universe.
